Channa Dalna/Cottage Cheese Curry

 Today I cooked Channa r Dalna(Bengali name) refers to homemade Cottage Cheese Curry which is an authentic Bengali dish.It is delicious and nutritious vegetarian dish.Channa r Dalna mostly made during puja or any religious occasions. It can be served as a Veg side dish along with main course.With some basic ingredients you can prepare the dish at any day.



Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes                            Serving:  3-4
Cooking Time: 20-25 minutes                                  Category: Veg

Ingredients:
  • 1 ltr full cream milk
  • 4 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoon refine flour (Maida)
  • 1 big sized potato (cut into medium cubes)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seed (whole jeera)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 dried red chili
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 2 green chili
  • 1 teaspoon ghee
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 6 teaspoon mustard oil
  • Salt & Sugar as per taste

Method:
  • Heat the milk in a heavy bottomed vessel, when it start to boil, reduce the flame,add lemon juice & stir
  • Heat further until the milk will curdle and the whey will separate.Turn off the flame
  • Take a strainer,lined with a muslin cloth.Pour the curdled milk in it
  • Wash it under cold water for 3 to 4 times to remove the sourness of lemon juice 
  • After that take out the Channa/Homemade cottage cheese in a big bowl and knead it with maida and a pinch of sugar
  • Make small ball and flatten them with hand or you can make any shape as you desire
  • Deep fry them in a frying pan with 6 teaspoon of mustard oil
  • Once it is fried keep them aside
  • In the same oil add cumin seed,bay leaf and dried red chili.Stir for 1min
  • Now add potato to fry.Stir for 3-4 min
  • Add turmeric powder,red chili powder and cumin powder paste
  • Add green chili salt and sugar
  • Cook until oil comes out from the masala
  • Add water 1 and 1/2 cup of a medium size cup.Reduce the flame
  • Add Channa balls cover until potato gets fully boiled
  • Add ghee and garam masala just before you turn off the heat


Serve hot with rice or polau
